Extratech develops sensor systems WSN (wireless sensor network) within the WMS-Project. The management is done through a unique platform that handles all of our wireless monitoring systems for both stand-alone applications (where it requires an operator to the scene of monitoring for the reading of measured data) that for web-oriented applications (where is NOT required the presence of an operator for reading the measured data). For these latter applications, used especially for long term monitoring, the query and the analysis of the measured data is made in real time fully remotely. The data is recorded on the data logger and sent via GPRS and interrogabilida any location connected to the Internet, via secure access to our dedicated server, after authentication.

Wireless technology

These protocols differ from their technical characteristics and their applications. For example, computer networks involve a high volume and a high rate of data transfer. In this case, Bluetooth and WIFI networks are massively used for these applications but require the mainstream due to their high consumption. In contrast, applications in the field of civil and industrial monitoring via sensors require a low rate of data transfer, but a high level of reliability. The use of the 868 MHz ISM band ensures efficient data transfer and is suitable for applications requiring a low rate of data transfer: ensures greater reliability and complete freedom. The ISM bands used for free and without license, are widely used for various industrial and domestic applications, where the radius of action, the costs of the system monitoring and battery life are important issues. Applications in these market segments are different and may include home automation, security, industrial control, remote sensing, the automatic meter reading, toys, weather stations. Internet of Things

Environmental monitoring

Development of resource constrained devices connected to the Internet also means that other applications like earthquake or tsunami early-warning systems can also be used by emergency services to provide more effective aid. IoT devices in this application typically span a large geographic area and can also be mobile.
Infrastructure management
Monitoring and controlling operations of urban and rural infrastructures like bridges, railway tracks, on- and offshore- wind-farms is a key application of the IoT. The IoT infrastructure can be used for monitoring any events or changes in structural conditions that can compromise safety and increase risk. It can also be utilized for scheduling repair and maintenance activities in an efficient manner, by coordinating tasks between different service providers and users of these facilities. IoT devices can also be used to control critical infrastructure like bridges to provide access to ships. Usage of IoT devices for monitoring and operating infrastructure is likely to improve incident management and emergency response coordination, and quality of service, up-times and reduce costs of operation in all infrastructure related areas. Even areas such as waste management stand to benefit from automation and optimization that could be brought in by the IoT.
Energy management
Integration of sensing and actuation systems, connected to the Internet, is likely to optimize energy consumption as a whole. It is expected that IoT devices will be integrated into all forms of energy consuming devices (switches, power outlets, bulbs, televisions, etc.) and be able to communicate with the utility supply company in order to effectively balance power generation and energy usage. Such devices would also offer the opportunity for users to remotely control their devices, or centrally manage them via a cloud based interface, and enable advanced functions like scheduling (e.g., remotely powering on or off heating systems, controlling ovens, changing lighting conditions etc.).
